Why acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an effective treatment for many medical problems, sometimes as a primary treatment and sometimes as a complement to other interventions. It can often control problems like pain and insomnia without medication and is useful for management of problems that can be challenging to treat or even properly define in our standard (Western) medical system.

Acupuncture can help to maintain good health; it does not require a disease as defined in Western medicine. Eastern medicine views health and illness as a continuum with a healthy state of balance of the mind, body, and spirit as the goal. Rather than a collection of complaints or ailments, a patient is viewed as a person with a set of characteristics that are neither good nor bad but that help determine strengths, weaknesses, and susceptibility to illness and injury. By treating the patient (rather than just the problem), acupuncture can help your unique characteristics work for you.

Although I am trained and board-certified in family medicine, my practice at Seven Dragons Health is limited to medical acupuncture. I do not provide primary care services and will not order labs or prescribe medications. I expect my patients to have a primary care provider, since there are many problems for which it would be irresponsible to rely entirely on acupuncture. I will work with, not replace, this primary care provider.
